IMMINENT WAR
"War unleashed, middle east, lines are drawn in the sand, 2002 chaos reigns in the sacred land.
Target Isreal forgotten sequel, wars from the past, why the hatred of these people, is coexistence futile.
No such thing as coexist, no such thing as peace process, exterminate, proclaim your jihad, destroy the infidel, dig your own grave."
BY LIVING SACRIFICE

I chose this song not because it shows freedoms in canada but because it shows the absence of freedoms that other countries have. This may be because of war or because of a fascist or communist government. I think that no matter who wins the next election Canadians should be happy because however bad life in Canada gets it will still be better than most other countries in the world thanks to the charter of rights and freedoms.

And the sign said "Long-haired freaky people need not apply"
So I tucked my hair up under my hat and I went in to ask him why
He said "You look like a fine upstanding young man, I think you'll do" So I took off my hat, I said "Imagine that. Huh! Me workin' for you!"
Whoa-oh-oh
Sign, sign, everywhere a sign
Blockin' out the scenery, breakin' my mind
Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign?
And the sign said anybody caught trespassin' would be shot on sight
So I jumped on the fence and-a yelled at the house, "Hey! What gives you
the right?" "To put up a fence to keep me out or to keep mother nature in" "If God was here he'd tell you to your face, Man, you're some kinda sinner"
Now, hey you, mister, can't you read? You've got to have a shirt and tie to get a seat You can't even watch, no you can't eat
You ain't supposed to be here
The sign said you got to have a membership card to get inside
Ugh!
And the sign said, "Everybody welcome. Come in, kneel down and pray" But when they passed around the plate at the end of it all, I didn't have a penny to pay So I got me a pen and a paper and I made up my own little sign I said, "Thank you, Lord, for thinkin' 'bout me. I'm alive and doin' fine."
Wooo!
By Five Man Electrical Band

I chose this song because the main idea of it is that everone should be accepted no matter what they coose to do. The man was talking about being excluded everywhere he went for the way he looked or how he was dressed, which isn't how it should be. It relates to me because everyone has personal experience with being left out of something because of how they look or what they believe in. Canada is a place that lets you be who you want to be and not have to worry about the consequences of it. Everyone is free to be who they want and that is what I love about Canada.

NOT READY TO MAKE NICE-DIXIE CHICKS

Forgive, sounds good
Forget, I’m not sure I could
They say time heals everything
But I’m still waiting

I’m through with doubt
There’s nothing left for me to figure out
I’ve paid a price
And I’ll keep paying

I’m not ready to make nice
I’m not ready to back down
I’m still mad as hell and
I don’t have time to go round and round and round
It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could
‘Cause I’m mad as hell
Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should

I know you said
Can’t you just get over it
It turned my whole world around
And I kind of like it

I made my bed and I sleep like a baby
With no regrets and I don’t mind sayin’
It’s a sad sad story when a mother will teach her
Daughter that she ought to hate a perfect stranger
And how in the world can the words that I said
Send somebody so over the edge
That they’d write me a letter
Sayin’ that I better shut up and sing
Or my life will be over

I’m not ready to make nice
I’m not ready to back down
I’m still mad as hell and
I don’t have time to go round and round and round
It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could
‘Cause I’m mad as hell
Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should

I’m not ready to make nice
I’m not ready to back down
I’m still mad as hell and
I don’t have time to go round and round and round
It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could
‘Cause I’m mad as hell
Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should
(what it is you think i should)

Forgive, sounds good
Forget, I’m not sure I could
They say time heals everything
But I’m still waiting.

I chose this song because it is actually about government in America. A group member of the band said something 'offensive' about their government and the government wanted her to apologize but she stuck to her word. Even thought this wasn't in Canada, I'm sure it relates to many situations here. I've been in a situation like this where a higher power has done wrong so I stuck to my rights and spoke my mind (freedom of expression) They didn't like what I had to say, but I did not back down. Of course they can't do much thanks to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedom!

Southern trees bear strange fruit,
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root,
Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze,
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees.

Pastoral scene of the gallant south,
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth,
Scent of magnolias, sweet and fresh,
Then the sudden smell of burning flesh.

Here is fruit for the crows to pluck,
For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck,
For the sun to rot, for the trees to drop,
Here is a strange and bitter crop.
BY BILLIE HOLIDAY

I chose this song because it tells of the lack of rights African American people had in the US a few decades ago. It makes me value all the rights we have in Canada; people are free to believe what they want, and do what they want. Our rights are the most important things we have, yet we take them for granted every day, while people are dying in the Middle East for these rights. We are very fortunate that we have the Charter of Rights and Freedoms; it makes our lives better than what they could be.

Everlasting depression, this one page
Fleeting tactics, to those eyes
Without supplication, evil in law, connecting toward prison
Note with deadly poison, harboring fear at earthly desires
Incessant drool at delusional lies
Judgment, prattling on of crime unification
Who knows how to break the deadlock?

World of acquittal
Words of sanction
An acquired fever, truly "death pirates"
Redeem the game of law

Despair the Billy
Now, morals
Come, unstoppable eraser rain
Despair the Billy
Now, morals
Come, unstoppable eraser rain
Unstoppable eraser rain

Crimson-colored song of destruction
Won't it end?
How long has it been half noise?
Have ya got "that" which lies dormant within society?
Who can overwrite it, the filth of the world?
The earth astir from a chain of annihilation
Master, obliteration, fated self-destruction

Saturated with scoundrels, urgent, murder of criminals

Ok, well this doesn’t necessarily talk about your personal freedoms, but since this band is actually Japanese, it is talking about how human rights are being ignored and now its just all chaos. The message of this song is the world is very corrupt and things that were originally suppost to help us are now a part of the force that is restraining and controlling us. It relates to me because who doesn't think the world is corrupt? And it is...just real to me i guess. I chose this song because these guys aren’t really well known but are insanely awesome! This is one of my favourite songs. It is a good message, it is one that people think but not really say a lot.

Deep within the heart has always known that there was freedom
Somehow breathed into the very soul alive
The prisoner, the powerless, the saved have always known it
There’s something that keeps reaching for the sky

Even life begins because a baby fights for freedom

And songs we love to sing have freedom’s theme
Some have walked through fire and flood to find a place of freedom
And some faced hell itself for freedom’s dream

Let freedom ring wherever minds know what it means to be in chains
Let freedom ring wherever hearts know pain
Let freedom echo through the lonely streets where prisons have no key
We can be free and we can sing --- let freedom ring

God built freedom into every fiber of creation
And He meant for us to all be free and whole
When my Lord bought freedom with the blood of His redemption
His cross stamped pardon on my very soul

I’ll sing it out with every breath, I’ll let the whole world hear it
This hallelujah anthem of the free
That iron bars and heavy chains can never hold us captive
The Son has made us free and free indeed

Let freedom ring down through the ages from a hill called Calvary
Let freedom ring wherever hearts know pain
Let freedom echo through the lonely streets where prisons have no key
You can be free and you can sing let freedom ring
Let freedom echo through the lonely streets where prisons have no key
You can be free and you can sing let freedom ring
You can be free and you can sing --- let freedom ring --- let freedom ring

Freedom Freedom Freedom all this song is about is freedom and that's why I choose it. The reason we go to war Freedom why we vote Freedom why we riot Freedom (and beer) Why we have walk outs, why slavery was abolished, why woman have rights, why we have unbiased trials, why we have rights, why we have demorcracy, why we can argue about which goverment is better because of freedom it is the the most basic and most coveted right it's what ever claims they will die for and what many do. It is the goal of every country and person I belive to be free. Thats why I choose this song cause above all we must never forget about our right to be Free "every life begins cause a baby fight's for freedom"

blue suede shoes by elvis presly...or however his name is spelled...

Well, its one for the money,
Two for the show,
Three to get ready,
Now go, cat, go.

But dont you step on my blue suede shoes.
You can do anything but lay off of my blue suede shoes.

Well, you can knock me down,
Step in my face,
Slander my name
All over the place.

Do anything that you want to do, but uh-uh,
Honey, lay off of my shoes
Dont you step on my blue suede shoes.
You can do anything but lay off of my blue suede shoes.

You can burn my house,
Steal my car,
Drink my liquor
From an old fruitjar.

Do anything that you want to do, but uh-uh,
Honey, lay off of my shoes
Dont you step on my blue suede shoes.
You can do anything but lay off of my blue suede shoes.

ok i know its an annoying song and i hate elvis but it fits the topic.
because like canada u can do whatever u want except for what is layed out in the charter of rights. the blue shoes r just a little thing that doesnt seem important but few others have blue suede shoes r important in a small but in a large way.just like canada has great freedoms that almost no other country has so it is just that little thing that is so great.

No matter how hard you try, you can't stop us now
No matter how hard you try, you can't stop us now

Since the Prehistoric ages and the days of ancient Greece
Right down through the Middle Ages
Planet earth kept going through changes
And then the renaissance came, the times continued to change
Nothing stayed the same, but there were always renegades
Like Chief Sitting Bull, Tom Paine
Dr. Martin Luther King, Malcolm X
They were renegades of their time and age
The mighty Renegades

We're the renegades of funk
(funk!)
We're the renegades of funk
(funk!)

We're the renegades of funk
(funk!)
We're the renegades of funk
(funk!)

From a different solar system many many galaxies away
We are the force of another creation
A new musical revelation
And we're on this musical mission to help the others listen
And groove from land to land singin' electronic chants like
Zulu nation
Revelations
Destroy all nations(x2)

Now renegades are the people with their own philosophies
They change the course of history
Everyday people like you and me
We're the renegades, we're the people
With our own philosophies
We change the course of history
Everyday people like you and me
C'mon!

We're the renegades of funk
(funk!)
We're the renegades of funk
(funk!)

We're the renegades of funk
(funk!)
We're the renegades of funk
(funk!)

We're poppin', shockin', rockin', put a side of hip-hop
Because where we're goin' there ain't no stop
Poppin', shockin', rockin', put' a side of hip-hop
Because where we're goin' there ain't no stop
We Poppin',and shockin',and rockin', and put a side of hip-hop!
'Cause we're poppin', shockin', rockin' put a side of hip-hop
Poppin', shockin', rockin', put a side of hip-hop!

We're the renegades of funk
(funk!)
We're the renegades of funk
(funk!)

We're the renegades of funk
(funk!)
We're the renegades of funk
(funk!)

I picked this song because it shows that all people have a voice and a right to there own thought and to fight for that thought. Canada has these rights and we are like the Renegades from all other different societies. We have soo many freedoms that we should be very happy.

Dream - Common

[Chorus - Will.I.Am & Martin Luther King]
(I am happy, I am, I am happy... I Have a Dream!) I got a Dream
(That One Day) We gonna work it out out out
(That One Day) We gonna work it out out out
(That One Day) We gonna work it out
(I Have a Dream) I got a Dream
(That One Day) We gonna work it out out out
(That One Day) We gonna work it out out out
(That One Day) We gonna work it out
(I Have a Dream) I got a Dream
(That One Day) That one day
(That One Day) I'mma look deep within myself
(I Have a Dream) I gotta find a way...
My Dream Is To Be Free
My Dream Is To Be
My Dream Is To Be
My Dream Is To Be Free

[Verse 1 - Common]
In search of brighter days, I ride through the maze of the madness,
Struggle is my address, where pain and crack lives,
Gunshots comin' from sounds of blackness,
Given this game with no time to practice,
Born on a black list, told I'm below average,
A life with no cabbage,
That's no money if you from where I'm from,
Funny, I just want some of your sun,
Dark clouds seem to follow me,
Alcohol that my pops swallowed bottled me,
No apology, I walk with a boulder on my shoulder,
It's a cold war - I'm a colder soldier,
Hold the same fight that made Martin Luther the king,
I ain't usin' it for the right thing,
In between lean and the fiends, hustle and the schemes,
I put together pieces of a dream
I still have one

[Chorus]

[Verse 2 - Common]
The world's seen me lookin' in the mirror,
Images of me, gettin' much clearer,
"Dear Self," I wrote a letter just to better my soul,
If I don't express it then forever I'll hold, inside
I'm from a side where we out of control,
Rap music in the hood played a fatherly role,
My story like yours, yo it gotta be told,
Tryna make it from a gangsta to a godlier role,
Read scrolls and stow slaves,
And Jewish people in cold cage,
Hate has no color or age, flip the page,
Now my race became freedom,
Writin' dreams in the dark, they far but I can see'em,
I believe in Heaven more than Hell,
Blessings more than jail,
In the ghetto let love prevail,
With a story to tell, my eyes see the glory and well,
The world waitin' for me to yell "I have a dream!"

[Chorus]

When I had to pick a song about freedom, I thought of this song right away! I just feel like the people are shouting out that they just want to be free and its there dream in life! It breaks my heart to see people in such a bad situation that they are singing for freedom, this is what is so good about Canada and our freedom. When they say “Hate has no color or age, flip the page”, I don’t think people should hate over someone’s skin color or even there age. This is why the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms was created, to be free to believe what you want, to have the right to live, not focusing on what you look like or where you come from. There are so many other things listed in this document that some people aren’t even aware of. People need to know there rights and freedoms in Canada!

Endangered Species
I am an endangered species
But I sing no victim’s song
I am a woman I am an artist
And I know where my voice belongs
I am a woman I exist
I shake my fist but not my hips
My skin is dark my body is strong
I sign of rebirth no victim’s song
I am an endangered species
But I sing no victim’s song
I am a woman I am an artist
And I know where my voice belongs
They cut out my sex they bind my feet
Silence my reflex no tongue to speak
I work in the fields I work in the store
I type up the deals and I mop the floors
I am an endangered species
But I sing no victim’s song
I am a woman I am an artist
And I know where my voice belongs
My body is fertile I bring life about
Drugs, famine, and war, take them back out
My husband can beat me his right they say
And rape isn’t rape you say I like it that way
I am an endangered species
But I sing no victim’s song
I am a woman I am an artist
And I know where my voice belongs
I know where my soul belongs
I know where I belong

I chose this song because it is about woman’s rights, something we are very lucky to have in Canada. Woman are treated horribly all around the world. It has only been the last hundred years that woman in Canada have been able to vote, earn a decent income, gain an education, and have a voice. It is still a reality in many countries that woman are treated inhumanely. Some women of different nationalities come to Canada seeking a better life yet are still persecuted because of their religion culture and gender. Woman in Canada don’t have to face such horrors. We do not know their struggle and we do not feel their pain. It angers me that people can treat other human beings so poorly and inhumanely. Women are humans too, not game to be shot down and hung on a wall, not to be used or trampled on. I am glad to live in Canada and to know I will always have a voice. I am an endangered species but i sing no victim song!

White man came across the sea
He brought us pain and misery
He killed our tribes, he killed our creed
He took our game for his own need

We fought him hard we fought him well
Out on the plains we gave him hell
But many came too much for cree
Oh will we ever be set free?

Riding through dustclouds and barren wastes
Galloping hard on the plains
Chasing the redskins back to their holes
Fighting them at their own game
Murder for freedom a stab in the back
Women and children and cowards attack

Run to the hills run for your lives
Run to the hills run for your lives

Soldier blue on the barren wastes
Hunting and killing their game
Raping the women and wasting the men
The only good indians are tame
Selling them whisky and taking their gold
Enslaving the young and destroying the old

Run to the hills run for your lives
(repeat to end)

Run To The Hills Iron Maiden

I picked this song becuase it shows how much canada has improved over the last 200 years. It shows that we have gained many rights as a country and that the things described in the song no longer take place. Everyone in Canada is no considered equal no matter what their skin color is or what race they are. It really shows how far Canada has come so far.

"Fuck The Police"

Good Evening,

We want to just quickly send a nice friendly message
to uh, Fraternal Order of Police in Philadelphia.

Here's something nice and friendly,
Here's something nice and friendly,
Here's something nice and friendly,
and it goes something like this.

Fuck tha police,
Comin straight from the underground.
Young nigga got it bad cuz I'm brown,
And not the other color so police think,
They have the authority to kill a minority.

Fuck that shit, cuz I ain't tha one,
For a punk mutha fucka with a badge and a gun,
To be beatin on, and throwin in jail.
We could go toe to toe in the middle of a cell.

Fuckin with me cuz I'm a teenager,
With a little bit of gold and a pager.
Searchin my car, lookin for the product.
Thinkin every nigga is sellin narcotics.

You'd rather see me in the pen,
Then me and Lorenzo chilling in the Benzo.
Beat tha police outta shape,
And when I'm finished, bring the yellow tape,
To mark off the scene of the slaughter.
No controller, bread and water.

A young nigga on a warpath,
And when I'm finished, it's gonna be a bloodbath,
Of cops, dyin in L. A.

Yo, I got somethin to say.
Fuck the police,
Comon! Off, What?
Fuck the police,
Yeah!
Comon!
Fuck tha police,
Yeah.

Fuck The police,
Comin straight from the underground.

You'd rather see me in the pen,
Then me and Lorenzo chilling in the Benzo.
Beat tha police outta shape,
And when I'm finished, bring the yellow tape,
To mark off the scene of the slaughter.
No controller, bread and water.

I don't know if they fags or what,
Search a nigga down and grabbin in the nuts.
And on the other hand, without a gun they can't get none.
But don't let it be a black and a white one.
Cuz they slam ya down to the street top,
Black police showin out for the white cop.

Yeah, my brothas will swarm,
On any mutha fucka in a blue uniform.
Just cuz we in Washington D.C, punk police are afraid of me.
Hey!

Punk on a warpath,
And when I'm finished, it's gonna be a bloodbath,
Of cops, dyin in L. A.

Hey yo, We got somethin to say.
Fuck the police,
Comon, sing that shit,
Right now,
Comon!
Comon!
One more time,
Here we go, here we go,
Comon!
One More, We gotta do it, right now,
Yeah,

I choose this song because it's awesome and it shows that even authority that's job is to protect is still biased and can deny us our rights and that we shouldn't just accecpt laws but we should fight to keep our rights and freedoms and our main goal should be to live in a unbiased country

From the song, I think the phrase "all I wanna do is take your money" part can be viewed as America, wanting money from the immigrants instead of their culture or the people. In Canada, there are lots of immigrants, like myself, but we never got to feel like we were left out or used by the government as the financial supporters.
Also, "I fly like paper, get high like planes" part shows an individual freedom. I think the paper and the plane used as the symbol for freedom.

Bloody Sunday - U2
I cant believe the news today
Oh, I cant close my eyes and make it go away
How long...
How long must we sing this song?
How long? how long...

cause tonight...we can be as one
Tonight...

Broken bottles under childrens feet
Bodies strewn across the dead end street
But I wont heed the battle call
It puts my back up
Puts my back up against the wall

Sunday, bloody sunday
Sunday, bloody sunday
Sunday, bloody sunday (sunday bloody sunday...)
(allright lets go!)

And the battles just begun
Theres many lost, but tell me who has won
The trench is dug within our hearts
And mothers, children, brothers, sisters torn apart

Sunday, bloody sunday
Sunday, bloody sunday

How long...
How long must we sing this song?
How long? how long...

cause tonight...we can be as one
Tonight...
Tonight...

Sunday, bloody sunday (tonight)
Tonight
Sunday, bloody sunday (tonight)
(come get some!)

Wipe the tears from your eyes
Wipe your tears away
Wipe your tears away
I wipe your tears away
(sunday, bloody sunday)
I wipe your blood shot eyes
(sunday, bloody sunday)

Sunday, bloody sunday (sunday, bloody sunday)
Sunday, bloody sunday (sunday, bloody sunday)
(here I come!)

And its true we are immune
When fact is fiction and tv reality
And today the millions cry
We eat and drink while tomorrow they die

The real battle yet begun (sunday, bloody sunday)
To claim the victory jesus won (sunday, bloody sunday)
On...

Sunday bloody sunday
Sunday bloody sunday...

I chose this song because because it's about the tiannemen square massacre and how so many people were killed to fight for their freeedom and rights.
