I am Canadian!

Read (text below) view or listen (http://canada4life.ca/videos.php?video=1) to the Joe Canadian Molson rant (text below), and some other spoofs. How do you define being Canadian? Add your own comment to this post with your thoughts on what it means to be Canadian. Remember to include your initials and the period of your socials class.

MOLSON RANT

Hey,
I'm not a lumberjack, or a Fur trader.
I don't live in an igloo,
or eat blubber
or own a dogsled.
And I don't know Jimmy, Sally or Suzy from Canada,
although I'm certain they're really, really nice.

I have a prime minister... not a president,
I speak English and French, not American
and I pronounce it About, not A-boot.

I can proudly sew my country's flag on my backpack,
I believe in peacekeeping, not policing,
diversity not assimilation,
and that the beaver is a truly proud and noble animal.

A toque is a hat,
a chesterfield is a couch,
and it is pronounced Zed,
not Zee... ZED!!
Canada is the 2nd largest land mass,
the 1st nation of hockey,
and the best part of North America.

My name is Joe...
And I am Canadian!

I define being Canadian by the way you talk (eh), if you know ANYTHING about hockey, if -20 is considered average temperature during the winter time, and if you call it a toque instead of a beanie. (:P)

Being Canadian is being proud of who you are. Being yourself and free.
The Canadian flag is a grand flag. And I don't like when Americans ask me if it comes in other colours. I mean come on...
I am a Canadian and would have it no other way. I am myslef, do what I want to do. Loud and proud to be Canadian.
Being for hockey is the way to be too eh?
Yes, I say 'eh' often... haha

To be a canadian means that you can be proud of where you come from. Everyone knows us because of Hockey. I personally dont think thats what its all about, mostly because i dont know anything about it. But that is something they can be proud of, canada is a very diverse place, and thats what we are known for. To be canadian means your different and independant.

being canadian is alright.
prince george itself sucks though.
there are too many people who wanna be a gangsta..LOSERS.
so walking around downtown you have all these idiots with knives and mase in their pockets and you cant feel safe.
buut canada is sweet i guess, we dont get bombed or anything, like other countries where they get attacked all the time. i think the airports are stupid though. like, you cant bring toothpaste!? thats ridiculous. but i guess you got to do what you got to do.

I didn't think being Canadian was anything (just being born here) until I met people that came from different parts of Canada, especially my wife... then I started teaching Social Studies 8, 9, 10 and I felt more connected to Canadian history and issues. I finally taught Socials 11 about 2 years ago, and now it is more important than ever. I'm still not very patriotic (support for country even when it is run by idiots), but I am deeply moved by the vision of Canada as a just society (Trudeau), a nation that values peace-keeping and diplomacy (Pearson) over bloodshed (pick any crappy American president), and a people who are tied to land and landscapes.

I could be half american and half canadian but I perfer to be Canadian because we rock! I want to travel when I grad and everyone around the world likes Canadians more. Plus I like being a peace keeper and not having to worry about war. We have the best beer too :) P1-AB

Hi my name is Caleb
I live in that big land mass above the U.S
It’s called Canada, and Canada means village,
And sometimes, our government is the village idiot.
We are no longer under the thumb of Britain.
Sure we have famous health care, and tons of resources,
including some of the worlds best marijuana.
You might think we are pathologically honest, and play, breathe, and live Hockey.
We are said to accept all cultures, including homosexuals, say “eh.”, speak French AND English,
Drink beer, Tim Hortons coffee, and strong maple syrup.
Sure, most of us are kind and give respect,
But then I start to think of the Japanese-Canadian internment,
The devastating amount of pollution that we launch into the air,
And how the government does not think that public secondary education would benefit our nation.
How 94% of our exports are to the U.S.A.
That Canada has had referendums and almost split the country in two.
But I guess that we can learn from our mistakes
WE CAN GROW STRONGER, TOUGHER AND SMARTER
THAN THE U.S AND HIS FRIENDS.
THE LITTLE BROTHER WILL GROW UP!
While we press our nose up against the window of his 4x4,
While pulling the old yawn and put-your-arm-around-her
to his girlfriend,
While he’s outside, beating up someone’s government.

I think that being Canadian is about not being afriad of where you grew up and call home. Taking pride in where you live. Being used to having very cold winters. Spending pretty much all your winter break in a hockey rink or on a slope skiiing/snowboarding.
Enjoying the natural and beautiful lakes and rivers.
Yeah sure we get alot of imports from the US but that shouldnt mean we get compared to them.
I love living in cananda and moving around. I meet lots of wicked people and see lots of great things in BC and Alberta.
Being Canadian means alot to me. I love where im from and how i grew up. I grew up in the bush and not having to see gang fights on a weekly basis.
Knowing how to fend for myself is a big part about being Canadian. Knowing how to cut down a tree and make fire wood.. or even planting a tree to make up for what has been done already.
I love being Canadian.

I think to be Canadian, you have to be accepting of other cultures and be kinda fun... In my opinion, most Canadians are fun-loving, nice people. Most of the time you'll find drunk Candians, but hey, oh well, they're having a good time :-).

I think being a canadian is unique we have our own way of life. Having hocky as a candian sport is sweet. Being Canadian is not like other people think others think that if u are canidian you pretty much live in iglos but it is not like that we get cold winters but we still can get hot summers.

I think to be a Canadian you have to be friendly, loyal, and honest. You have to have respect as well as get it, and not think your better than anyone else you meet. Everyone is equal, and unique in their own way, and for me to be a Canadian you have to accept that. I dont know, im just proud to be a Canadian

i think that being a canadian is about taking pride in where we live. We are lucky to live in a great country and live the ways that we do. To not be afraid of what other people say about Canadians for example, when people think we say "eh?" or "a-boot" or even live in "igloos". We should be proud to be Canadians and are extremely lucky to not live in a 3rd world country, even though most of us take it for granted

I believe that it's an honor to be Canadian. We are looked up to and admired by many people and nations,we hold a certain status and reputation for our namesake. We should enjoy being what we are;free. Canadians live in a world that is often taken for granted, only when looking through another's eyes will we see what we are meant to be.

I am proud of being canadian i take pride in doing as many canadian things as possible and enjoying them. I would define being a canadian as anyone who believes in a democratic freedom filled life. Canada is known around the world not as a power hungry 1st world county like the U.S. but a peaceful free beautiful country. ( with lots of snow), whats not to be proud of anyways we made a great sport( hockey) and we made great beer to drink at that sport.
