International Aid

NGOs (Non-Government Organizations) and government agencies play an important role in fighting poverty, famine and disease throughout the world. In recent times many of these organizations have been criticized for having too much overhead and administrative costs while not getting enough of the money directly to those in need. Others say that while there are flaws with some of the organizations any amount of aid that reaches these countries is better than nothing.

Visit the following sites and comment on the work these NGOs are doing. What organization would you donate either your time or money to?

Oxfam
The Red Cross
Doctors without Borders
CIDA
War Child
DATA
Unicef
World Vision

I would both donate my time and money to an organization such as War Child. Education is the key to changiing our world, and allowing children from third world country's access to an education that they would have other wise missed out on will only further the development of our world into something better.

I would provide support to the Oxfam group. I believe that correcting injustice can lift people out of poverty and create a better life for them.

I would donate to the red cross, because they help people all around the world instead of focusing on one thing. They are kinda like a superpower by working with everyone.

I don't feel comfortable with donating my money to any of those organizations because the organizers looks too rich while the people who were being helped looked too poor. I cannot be sure that my money will be used on helping the poor or the rich. I would actually be more willing that the government would increase taxed and help the undeveloped country through UN.

I would show support the most for UNICEF because children should have some basic needs met no matter what country they were born in. Children of a country need to be taught well in order to try to turn around a country's problems and become more developed. If the children are brought up in the same disaster their parents were, the destruction cycle will continue without improvement. However, i'd like to have a way to see the progress being made on an area from my contribution bacease the aid should be going to the cause, not the organization.

I would suppert the War Child NGO, because they try to empower children and young people to flourish within their communities and overcome the challenges of living with, and recovering from conflict.

I would donate lots of time and money to the Red Cross because they help struggling countries all over the world (not just African countries). The Red Cross supplies aid (medicine and food). They also try to build respect for the peole and laws in countries so they won't be torn apart by war, and try to protect the people in the countries that are.
