ELECTION ON! Try Vote Compass

Many Social Studies students will remember trying politicalcompass.org to find out where they were on the "political spectrum" -- but were often left with questions about what it meant and how it related to Canadian politics. As you may know, Canadian voters are heading to an election on May 2. CBC News has made their own spectrum quiz -- http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/canadavotes2011/votecompass/. Try it and leave a comment regarding your results-- I'm interested to know if you are surprised by the results or not (e.g. did you end up matched up with a party you probably wouldn't vote for?). Also, why do you think people might vote for a party that doesn't match up with their beliefs?

I am about as economically left as the Bloc Quebecois and as socially liberal as the Liberal Party. I am not surprised by this, although the questions had very limited response.

My economic and social stances are near the middle of the spectrum placing me in between the conservative and liberal parties. This is what I expected though I expected to be a bit closer to the conservative party.

I am Economic right like the Liberals and socail liberalism also like the Liberals. I dont find this surprising as I support most of their values but dislike their leader.

I am around 3/4 to the left for my economic views and about the center for my social values. This makes me a liberal

My results said I would vote for the Liberals. I am as economically left as the Green Party and as socially liberal at the NDP. This seems pretty acurate for me because I kind of believe in these parties and not so much the Conservatives. I didn't quite understand all the questions and issues though, so that might be why people vote for parties they don't really share the same beliefs with.

I was placed exactly on the liberal party, I knew I would be but I thought I would have been a bit closer to the conservative party.

The quiz has determined that I am closest to the Liberal party in my political views. I think that my views are more similar to the NDP and/or Green party, so I don't think this is the most accurate. Some of the questions just seemed sort of one-ended, so it was not easy to really express my views.

According to the CBC quiz, my political views are closest to those of the Liberal Party. This seems believable to me, I suppose, as I have fairly liberal views; however,it confuses me because I had thought the Liberal Party wasn't all that liberal.

I was placed almost in the dead center of the graph. I agree with this because I tend to be undecisive concerning several key political issues.

I was leaning towards Social Consevatism and my results were closest to the Liberal Party. I think that according to the answers it was fairly accurate but could have still been more specific. I was also not very far away from the Conservatives.

My results said I was closest to the Conservative Party and furthest from the New Democrocratic Party. I am not surprised by this at all.

I was placed very close to the Liberal party. My check mark was about a centimetre both left and above the center but I expected to be a bit more liberal, rather than conservative, however I am not too surprised by the other aspects of my result.

I was placed in the direct middle but the circle around the check mark only included Liberals. This doesn't surprise me and it's basically the same result as the last quiz we did like this. I don'tknow about the leaders directly so I'm hoping that his beliefs are like mine.

I was placed upward and and bit left from the middle of the spectrum, where I was told I was Liberal. This doesn't really suprise me as I was placed in the same area as the last quiz. I was farthest away from the Conservative party.

I was placed directly in the middle of economics and just slightly above and middle of social conservativism and socail liberalism. I am not that surprised by this because this is around where I expected to be but maybe a little closer to conservative.

In the quiz I found that I am a social conservativism, but i am closest to the Libral party in the top left wing, which i dont really agree with since i am not happy with some of the things the librals have done.

I'm Liberal.
I wasn't to suprised with my results but I wasn't as close to the green party as I thought I might be.
I think people would vote for a party that didn't match their beliefs because they don't know about all of that parties beliefs, since the parties might hide some things until they are elected.

I ended up with a party I would probably vote for. I think people might vote for a party that doesn't match up with their beliefs beacause they feel personal choice for the individual is more important.

Among the other parties, I was placed closer to the liberals. However, I do not believe this is accurate because I do not believe in some of the liberal's policies.

Although, I wasn't surprised with the results because socially, I am conservative, but economically I am closer to the liberals. It is hard to find an exact party when my ideas and views are different
