Read the following instructions and complete the two activities. These were developed by a friend of mine, Mr. Thielmann, over at DP Todd.
Activity One
Purpose: find out what kind of political views you have and how they compare with world figures and political parties
Instructions:
go to http://www.politicalcompass.org/
read the instructions and complete the quiz
read through your results page to learn about your views
summarize what you learned from the quiz by commenting in response to this posting on the course blog -- http://www.soc11eh.blogspot.com
Tips:
left vs right: left-wing usually means more government control over industry and economy; right-ring usually means less government regulation and intervention (laissez-faire)
authoritarian vs libertarian: authoritarian means powerful government which controls rights and freedoms, sometimes it can be a dictatorship; libertarian means less government control of rights, sometimes less government in general
Activity Two
Purpose: learn about different ways of organizing nations by politics, economy, and values
Instructions:
go to http://www.nationstates.net
read the introduction and sign up to “build” your nation
experiment with the simulation for as long as you need to see how it works, more if you have the time (warning: NationStates can be addictive!)
summarize what you learned from the simulation by commenting on this posting on the course blog -- http://www.soc11eh.blogspot.com
Tips:
See how the choices you make at the beginning affect the kind of country which is generated by the simulator. Look at other countries and issues around the “world” to see what others have done.

In this quiz I learned that I am a left wing libertarian most similar on the political compass to Gandhi. I somewhat disagree with this, but a graph with 2 dimension can only represent so much.
I am a Left Wing Libertarian, it says I have very similar beliefs to Gandhi, just slightly more "Right Wing".
I can see how we both want what is best for the people and not the rich minority. I think my position on the graph is fairly accurate, though i might be slightly more right wing than shown.

In this quiz it showed I was a left wing libertarian, closest to Ghandi and the Dalai Lama. I'm not sure if I agree with this statement because many of my answers on the quiz were fairly random as many of the questions were vague and not easily understood.

I found out that i am a left libertarian witch is similar to Gandhi. i sort of agree with this, but it cant be exact because it does not ask all the questions.

The test said I am a Left Wing Libertarian. It said I was simlar to Ghandi. I agree with this for the most part but I'm not sure it is 100% accurate because alot of the questions weren't easy to answer with a simple 'agree' or 'disagree'.

I learned that I am a Left Wing. I am near Ghandi and Nelson Mandela on the political compass. I somewhat agree with this but I can't be sure
AP
I am a Left Winged Libertarian/Authoritarian leaning 0.05 closer to Libertarian.
I agree with this somewhat but I don't think that is it entirely accurate. I think in reality I would tend to lean closer to the right.

The Political Compass program suggests that I am a communist libertarian and have views similar to those of Gandhi. My coordinates are (-5.62, -7.44). I agree, but I feel this test is fairly difficult to take, as some of the terms used are not commonly known. Overall, I feel they placed me well.

In this quize I learned that I am a left wing authoritarian. Although I am in the same block with Stalin, I am actually closer to Gahdhi. I strongly agree with the graph, for I think possess quality from both Stalin and Gandhi.

In the quiz it told me that I am a Right Wing Authoritarian/ Libertarian. Being closest to Jose Zapatero, a Spanish politician and since the 2004 general election, the 5th and current constitutional Prime Minister of Spain.
After reading about Zapatero, I can see how we have some similarities. Making my position on the graph fairly accurate. - BP
This quiz told me that i was left wing, but i was right on the line between libertarian and authoritarian. I don't think this quiz really represents me at all because i was having to guess what most of the questions were asking.

I apparently share similar beliefs to ghandi, as I am apparently a left winged liberal. I agree wtih with this to a limited extent as I beleive I can be rather right winged at times
-BC period 3
I am a left wing authoritarian.
I agree with this somewhat, however I do not believe this is very accurate because some I do not have an exact answer to some questions.
LP
My results said I am a left wing authoritarian, but only slightly left and authoritarian. On the political compass the character I'm closest with is Pope Benedict XVI, however I don't know how to compare with them because I've never heard of them. I agree that I am somewhere in the middle and a bit to the left and a bit authoritarian because I believe socialistic views can be beneficial and that some structure is definately needed, but too much is never a good thing.
CK
The Political Compass places me as a Left-wing Liberal. My values are between Ghandi and Nelson Mandela.
I feel that this is a quite accurate representation of my beliefs. I feel like it could be slightly off, though, because I didn't really understand some of the questions or necessarily have any opinion on them, so I would suggest having a "skip" button to avoid hinderance.
Overall, I think that this was an accurate representation of political standings, and I could see how I fit into this category.

I am a left wing libertarian, close to Gandhi. I agree with the score but some of the questions I didn't really understand, but I doubt that will change the results much.

After playing for with my country for a little while. I've come to realize that one cannot be left alone or stay static when surrounded by other countries.
LP
I am a left wing social Authoritarian/ Libertarian. I am -4.oo to the left and -2.26 to the Libertarian side. The closest political characters with similar beliefs to me are Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, and The Dalai Lama. I agree with this but I dont know how accruate it is because I had to guess on a few questions.
JC
In the quiz I found that I am a social conservativism, but i am closest to the Libral party in the top left wing, which i dont really agree with since i am not happy with some of the things the librals have done.
